Access TallyPrime Remotely Without Remote Desktop

Remote desktop, cloud hosting or a web view of your Tally data? A plain comparison of the ways to access TallyPrime from outside the office, and when each makes sense.

"Can I see Tally from home?" is one of the most common questions Tally partners hear. There are three broad ways to do it. Each solves a different problem, and it helps to know which one you actually need.

Option 1: Remote desktop software

You install a remote-control app on the office PC and on your phone or laptop, and control the office PC from outside.

  • Good for: an occasional fix, or using a Tally feature that is only on the desktop.
  • Drawbacks: the office PC must be free — if your accountant is working, you are both fighting for the same mouse. Tally's screens are not designed for a phone. Every connection is a full login to the office computer, which is a security decision in itself.

Option 2: Hosting Tally on a cloud server

TallyPrime and its data are moved to a rented server, and everyone connects to that server.

  • Good for: businesses where several people in different places must do data entry in the same company all day.
  • Drawbacks: a monthly server cost, a change in how everyone works, and a dependence on the internet even for people sitting in the office.

Option 3: A web view of your Tally data

TallyPrime stays exactly where it is. A small connector sends a copy of your reports securely to the web, and you open them in any browser. This is how SwastikOne works.

  • Good for: owners, partners, managers and accountants who need to see the business — sales, outstanding, stock, P&L — from anywhere, on any device.
  • What it is not: it does not move your ledger to the cloud. Your team keeps using TallyPrime in the office as today.

With a Read & Write plan you can also raise vouchers from the web, and they post into TallyPrime — useful for a salesperson booking an order or a branch recording a receipt.

Which one should you choose?

Many businesses end up with a combination: TallyPrime in the office for entry, a web view for everyone who needs the numbers, and remote desktop kept for the rare support call.

What to ask before you choose

  • Does it work on a phone screen, or only on a laptop?
  • Does it interrupt the person using Tally in the office?
  • Does every user get their own login, or is one password shared?
  • Is data sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS)?
  • Does it need any change to your Tally licence or company?

Getting started

SwastikOne's connector installs on the TallyPrime PC in a few minutes, without an administrator password, and your reports appear on the web as soon as the first sync completes. As a Certified Tally Partner, our team can install it with you over a remote session if you prefer.
